College of Installation Management, MG Robert M. Joyce School for Family and MWR

The MG Robert M. Joyce School for Family and MWR, located at Joint Base San Antonio - Fort Sam Houston, TX, is a component of G 3/5/7 Installation Management Command for workforce learning and performance, a vital force for driving business outcomes. Established in 1987 as a brick and mortar center for classroom training. Today, the School of Family and MWR also provides web-based instruction and performance support through its virtual campus available at With over 25,000 registered users, the School for Family and MWR offers progressive and sequential learning opportunities that enable Family and MWR employees to provide Soldiers, Civilians, and their Families with quality of life programs commensurate with the quality of their service to our country.

Leaders and Managers of Family and MWR Programs at the Garrison level are the principal target audience. The School provides skill and technical training to non-managerial employees as well. Family and MWR employees of the U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps also participate in the School's training. All courses in the curriculum are competency based and driven by extensive needs assessments. Learning is delivered in a variety of formats: residence classroom (synchronous), virtual classroom (synchronous), blended (asynchronous and synchronous), and self-paced (asynchronous) on- line with emphasis on the use of emerging technologies and performance support.

The faculty, with relevant academic credentials and professional certifications, is selected from the top echelon of managers in Army Family and MWR programs. A qualified and trained faculty member reviews School-sponsored courses and awards Continuing Education Units in accordance with ANSI/IACET standards. Currently 20 courses have received college credit recommendations.
