American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters, Insurance Institute of America
The American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and the Insurance Institute of America are companion educational organizations directly supported by the property-casualty insurance industry to help meet its personnel development and professional education needs.
The American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters is responsible for administering the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Program. The Insurance Institute of America offers programs in general insurance, insurance claims, management studies, risk management, underwriting, information technology, insurance production, premium auditing, surplus lines, insurance accounting and finance, marine insurance, insurance regulation, reinsurance, and fidelity surety bonding.
Courses offered throughout the United States and abroad are of three types: (1) formal classes, which may be publicly offered on college campuses or privately conducted at insurance companies; (2) online classes; (3) informal study groups, which may have a designated leader or shared leadership; and (4) independent study, which primarily benefits those individuals who, because of distance and time factors, choose to study at their own pace.
The Institute's national examinations test a candidate's ability to master a body of knowledge and to communicate it clearly to others. Program examinations are two to three hours in length.
