Seminary Extension

Seminary Extension is an external theological education program of the six theological seminaries of the Southern Baptist Convention: Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The Association of Theological Schools accredits each of these institutions by its regional accrediting agency.

The program of Seminary Extension includes two delivery systems: The Independent Study Institute, which offers correspondence courses and other forms of home study; and a network of more than 400 extension centers.

To meet the needs of students with a wide range of educational backgrounds, Seminary Extension offers courses on two levels of difficulty. Basic Curriculum courses (in English and Spanish) are designed for pastors who have had only limited formal education. Courses in the diploma-level curriculum are for pastors and laypersons who are qualified to perform satisfactorily on a college level.
